Sport and PSSA

Swimming

The school holds its annual competitors only swimming carnival in Term 1 at a local public pool. Only students that are participating in the carnival attend and are mainly Years 3-6 students with some older Year 2 children, who are capable of swimming 50 metres unaided, permitted to attend.

A two week swim school for non-swimmers in Years 1-3 is offered during the year.

Cross Country

Cross Country is held at school with K-2 students running inside the school grounds and all other students (including Year 2 students turning 8) following a course that begins within the school, follows footpaths nearby the school and then concludes back within the school grounds. Teachers and dedicated parent volunteers are at checkpoints throughout the course to ensure students safety and that they complete the correct course for their age group.

Athletics Carnival

K-2 hold their carnival on school grounds while the 3-6 Athletics carnival is held offsite.

Houses

For school sports carnivals students are placed in one of four house groups.

These are:

  • Knight (blue)
  • Pearce (yellow)
  • Redden (red)
  • Sherwood (green)

Parents are always welcome at any of these events as both helpers and spectators (in line with any COVID-19 restrictions that may be in place at the time).

From our school carnivals, students move on to Zone, then Area and State levels of competition.

Every student has the opportunity to take part in sporting activities.

In K-2 this may be gross motor activities, including gymnastics and dance.

Sport

All students participate in sports lessons across the school week on various days depending on individual class timetables.

Years 3-6 students not participating in PSSA take part in regular sports activities at school on Fridays.

3-6 students are given the opportunity to try out to be members of various sports teams, which play in competitive games every Friday. This is referred to as PSSA (Primary School Sport Association). Our school is also involved in State Knockout competitions in a variety of competitive sports.
