Rock and Water is a course that is delivered over a number of lessons to students and covers many content areas of the PDHPE syllabus. A series of exercises, games and theory lessons are experienced to develop confidence, resilience and self-reflection. The program is an excellent tool to support young people in finding their grounding, learning how to centre oneself and learning how to self manage in social settings. Topics covered in the program include: intuition, body language, mental strength, empathic feeling, positive feeling, positive thinking and positive visualising. Discussion topics include bullying, harassment, life goals, desires and following an inner compass.
All Year 3 boys and girls have been involved in the program this year and now have a great understanding of the program, which they will build upon through their senior years of primary school. We continue to work with the Year 4-6 students on projects through the "BoyShed" initiative.
Students who have been involved in the program have added to the overall presentation of the school grounds with the "Rock and Water Garden" near completion. This area will be a versatile outdoor learning space and meditation garden for students to reflect and learn.
2018 was the first year that the girls have been involved in the program working collaboratively with the boys. The program has proven to be effective in building respect, positive relationships and social understanding with the inclusion of girls.
